Kullu & Manali

The Kullu valley has always been known as the valley of the Gods, each village having its own colourful deity. It's also home to some of the oldest Deodar forests in this part of the Himalayas. Magnificent, stately Deodar trees some more than 500 years old still tower over enchanting forest glens laced with gurgling streams and murmuring brooks. Picturesque apple orchards line the scenic road and much of the hillsides. The landscape is primarily Alpine and the lush fertile valley stretches almost 80 Kms north to south with the clear blue river Beas flowing through its entire length. Here ancient villages display an unusual architectural style of stone, slate roofs and finely carved wooden balconies. Further north across the 13,050 ft high Rohtang Pass lie the semi desert valleys of Lahaul and Spiti.
This entire region of Kullu offers numerous opportunities for the avid trekker, enthusiastic mountain climber and the ardent adventurer. In the winter Solang Valley 13 Kms north west of Manali town offers the skier great slopes Para gliding and river rafting are the other sports quite popular in the valley. Trekking still offers the best experience in and around this fabled valley.
