Terrace of the World - Ladakh

Bordering the high altitude deserts of Zanskar and similar in terrain and altitude is Ladakh. It stretches across the rain shadow of the Great Himalayan Range. Ladakh is today one of the last citadels of Buddhism where it still lives and thrives as an intrinsic part of the inhabitants' lifestyle. Displaying a vast contrast to its neighbouring green and fertile Kashmir, Ladakh is all about vast high altitude sweeping desert plateaus, spectacular gorges, ancient monasteries, high mountain passes and lofty mountain valleys all above 11.000 feet. It is also home to the mighty River Indus that flows through its central region. The region proliferates with trekking routes. After all it was a main stopover point on the ancient trade routes to Central Asia. The scenery is dramatic and the routes traversed unforgettable remaining etched in your memory for ever.
